The Chris’s 5-star review: Lost another virginity (I have plenty), my chicken 'n waffles virginity! I passed by and the tummy was rumbling. I've passed by here many times and the usually packed tiny parking lot had some spaces open and there weren't people waiting outside like usual, so it was a spur of the moment thing. Being my first time here and having the opportunity to try it for the first time, I had to get the restaurant's namesake. I got me the #1 which is 2 waffles and 1/4 chicken ($10.70 IIRC) with your choice of dark or white meat. Like 2Pac said, "The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice.", so I got the dark meat. I usually don't get the hype of most things (e.g. In-N-Out, Boiling Crab, Nutella, Friends) but the waffles here must've been the best I've had! I see the light (hype)! The fried chicken though, not the best I've had. It was close though, it was perfectly cooked and had the perfect crisp, I just felt it lacked a little in the seasoning department. The service here was friendly, the only bad part was I wasn't checked upon after I got my food. I had to wait for the check to come to ask for a refill. No bueno. If I had to rate this accurately, it'd be a 4.5. This place is worth being called an LA institution. Like many institutions, expect crowds and wait times,the hype is worth it I think. I usually don't say that. -
The Chris’s 5-star review: "South Central does it like nobody does (This is how we do it!)" True words, Montell Jordan. I love South Central for places like this, another example of good hood food. The suburbs could use more of this and less of Colonel Sanders. Fuck corporate chains! Slow down when you cruise down Western between Florence and Manchester cause you might miss it. You can either dine in or take out. They have a variety of sides, around 300 sodas (you read that right), and fried chicken like duh! I always get the 3 piece meal (comes with a biscuit and 1 side) and an extra small side, just enough for me and it all comes just under $10. The biscuits are crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The sides are good but nothing to write home about, remember they're sides. The star of the show though is biggety bomb! The batter, so crispy and golden and the inside so juicy, even the breast piece, not many places can pull that off. Don't forget to douse that bird in hot sauce! Are there any cons? Yes. The sides are puny, they're the size of a standard cup coaster and the depth of one digit of my finger, for $1.69 they should be bigger. I let it slide cause of the biggety bomb chicken. Now you know about the bird, now everybody knows about the bird, That the bird bird bird, bird is the word! -
The Chris’s 5-star review: Waba vs. Flame Broiler: Teriyaki Beef Bowl Battle Pt. 1 People be raving about this place since it opened up so I had to see for myself, know what I'm saying? The inside is airy and modern and clean, for a new place it should be. The menu isn't complicated. Various meats teriyaki'd and served on rice, no big whoop. Most of the items here range from $5-$8. So I got the Half & Half Bowl (half beef, half chicken) for $5.99 and added avocado for $1.50, the life of luxury ain't cheap but definitely worth it! Before you dig in, go to the sauces and mix all three in a cup to mix and drizzle over your food, you're welcome. Anyways, the meat was cooked perfectly and tasted yummy when mixed with the avocado, green onions, rice, and my not-so-secret-anymore sauce. To sum it up, cheap, simple, yummy, and filling! Just like me! I be back! -
The Chris’s 4-star review: I normally don't review fast food chains but today's different, I'm no longer a pure innocent virgin! Yes, I lost my Chick-Fil-A virginity! I've been wanting to go for the longest time, even before the whole scandal. The scandal only lit the fire under my bum and I knew I needed to go ASAP! Who doesn't love juicy scandals and chicken sandwiches? I don't want to go on a political rant, but I just want to say like individuals, I think businesses have the right to believe in what they want and spend their hard earned money in which they please. Now, let's move on! Once you get to the counter, first thing you'll notice is the service. I was shocked of how good it was. The staff didn't have the usual "I hate my job and you" look on their faces you get at other places, if they did they hid it well! What a throwback to when customer service was a top priority! I ordered me the #2 Deluxe Chicken Sandwich Combo for ($6.99 sans tax). Everything looked and tasted fresh! The chicken in the sandwich was huge, juicy, and well seasoned. I loved how the fries were cut but they were under-seasoned, the sauces helped alleviate that. Out of the many sauces they had, I loved their Chick-Fil-A and Polynesian Sauces. Good service, reasonable prices, and above fast-food average food, I'll come back. Politics aside, if you're looking for the aforementioned things, well, like go! -
The Chris’s 5-star review: This is my favorite chicken chain! I've been coming here for years and I still get the urge to do the chicken dance after every experience! From combo meals, family packs, and catering meals, they do it all. I shouldn't namedrop but this is way better than that other similar chicken chain *cough* Pollo Loco *cough*. Big difference between the chicken here and at Pollo Loco is the way they're cooked. At Pollo Loco it's grilled which makes the meat charred and dry. Here it's roasted in a rotiserrie which allows the chicken to have a nice flavor on the outside while also being juicy inside. They do have a less variety of sides: rice, beans, potato salad, and corn. Though limited, this means they do those sides extremely well. I could eat a whole tub of rice or potato salad if I wanted to! There is only two salsas , spicy and non-spicy pico de gallo. They're good but a bit too watery for me. Looking for healthy Mexican-style chicken that isn't fake and gross-looking? Give this chain a chance! You have to be a crazy chicken not to! -
The Chris’s 4-star review: Aloha! If you never had Hawaiian, you're in for a treat! It's a cuisine that blends Native Hawaiian, Spanish, Portuguese, and American cuisines with a huge East Asian influence. The end result is amazing! My first time here, upon entering I noticed how clean and tropical the place was! Then I noticed the huge menu plastered on the wall! Took me a while to decide, the cashier was nice and patient. They mainly do the Hawaiian plate lunches, similar to bentos, it's an entree with two scoops of rice and one of macaroni salad. They also have salads, soups, smoothies, and musubi, which is similar to a sushi roll. I got the Hawaiian BBQ Mix to try a little bit of everything ($7.99). With a bottled water it totaled out to an even $10. They give you alot of bang for your buck here! Opened my box and noticed the generous portions. The amount I got be could be shared between two people. I was having a fat day so it was all mine! Plus I had no one to share it with... Anyways brace yourselves vegetarians, it was a carnivore's feast! They gave me BBQ Beef, BBQ Chicken, and a Short Rib on top of steamed cabbage! All were tender and flavorful! The sides were standard, not bad but nothing extraordinary. Mahalo, Aloha King, I'll be back soon! -
The Chris’s 4-star review: Rating this a 3.5, rounding it to a 4. Came with friends to celebrate the end of the semester and what's better than stuffing yourself?! If you've never been here, the atmosphere here is similar to TGI Fridays and Applebee's with TV's plastered everywhere and a big bar in the back. The menu has a variety of appetizers, burgers, and sandwiches but the wings are the big thing here! You can customize your wings regarding being bone-in (giggity) or boneless and choose from a variety of sauces and dry rubs you want your wings to be flavored with. Prices are a bit high but reasonable considering the many ways you can customize your wings. We started off with a basket of potato wedges and we each got our own order of wings. For my order of wings, I got the 12 boneless wings covered in the Mango Habanero sauce, which is the third hottest sauce they offer and definitely not for those with sensitive tongues ($10.49). The food was good! I find the quality of it to be a notch above chain restaurants like the ones I mentioned earlier. Things that can use improvement is service, wait time, and maybe prices. Other than that, not bad. I think I just found my new wing stop! Pun intended! -
The Chris’s 5-star review: I used to frequent the San Bernardino/Loma Linda location but since I've moved, I came here because it's closer. I like this location better. Primarily because the Food court is inside which is good to escape the hot IE sun on 100 degree plus days or windy days and parking is easier. Other than that its your standard Costco,clean industrial-looking warehouse store. Like all Costcos they have samples at particular times so you can have a free meal just walking to stand from stand. Their Kirkland products and their take-home pre-prepared meals never disappointed me. Their food court fare don't disappoint either and it's cheap, my personal favorites are the chicken bake and heavenly frozen yoghurt.Gas is cheaper here too which isn't a secret because it becomes apparent outside when you see the long lines reminiscent of the 70's gas crisis. Talking about long lines, it can be a bit crowded in peak times, mid-day weekends which eerily coincide with the passing of samples, coincidence? I'm a Big Costco fan, I went to Sam's Club once to check it out and it didn't feel right. Sorry,but Costco wins hands down plus they have my guilty pleasure, CHICKEN BAKES! Chicken bakes are worth the trip alone!
